Reunion Ideas

REUNION TIPS & IDEAS

1) Sending newsletters to all the family members 4-6 times a year is a great way
to generate new and old interest in your family reunion. In your newsletters you
should include information about; new marriages, births, deaths, illness (providing
other family members keep you advised of such). Also include information concerning
outstanding achievements both intellectually and physically and other honors
received by any and all ages. It's always fun to include a puzzle or games for
which prizes will be awarded at the up coming reunion. Example: How many words
can you find with-in your family surname. An inspirational saying or quote or even
a story told to you by an older family member about time long past, make
excellent reading.

2) At your reunions, hold an open or silent auction or both to generate money to
help pay the expenses of the reunion. Auction items can consist of whatever you
wish. We usually have family members bring hand crafted items, homemade jellies,
jams. spices, etc., and heirlooms make great silent auction items.

3) We've had a quilt drawing every year since we started having family reunion,
over 25 years ago. Someone has to be selected or volunteer to construct the first
quilt. Who ever wins the drawing is responsible for making (or having someone
else make) the quilt for the next reunion. No! we have never been lucky enough to win.

4) FOOD! The easiest way to feed a crowd is to have it catered. But, if you're like us,
you prefer the home cooked pot-luck or barbecue style meal and atmosphere.
We've done both at our numerous reunions and both work quite well. Anything goes
as long as everyone gets their belly full.

5) It's always nice to have something you can give everyone who attends your
reunion, as a memento. A pin, key chain, cap, t-shirt, pencil, pen, or magnet which
tells the family name, reunion date and location. This can be sewn-on, engraved,
ironed-on, or homemade; use your imagination.
